How Does Alaska Rainbow Lodge Operate?
Lots of lodges claim they are fly-out lodges. After arriving you discover that you’ll only fly out two days out of seven, or that the lodge only has enough airplanes for half the guests.
Many lodges in southwest Alaska operate on a program that they call “Daily fly-out fishing”. What this means is that every day, ALL the guests must pack up into an airplane and fly to a different destination to spend the day fishing. But if the weather is un-flyable, you’re stuck without a place to fish.
Some lodges are river-based lodges (no fly-out fishing). They state that they never have to depend on the weather to go fishing. They don’t mention that if their river is flooded, or the fish run has moved on, you’re out of luck. Alaska Rainbow Lodge is a river-based lodge PLUS we fly out daily. You are assured of finding rivers with the highest concentration of fish. You have the greatest river in Alaska as a back up should the weather turn bad, since we are located right on the bank of the Kvichak. There’s no such thing as a bad day of fly fishing at out Bristol Bay lodge.
At Alaska Rainbow Lodge we have the best of both worlds. The fishing is excellent on our home river, and we are very close to ALL the premier “fly-out” rivers of the Iliamna-Katmai region of Bristol Bay.

Without Equal
There are at least four other Alaska fishing lodges with the word “Rainbow” in their name. We are the only Alaska Rainbow Lodge. Imitated, yes… equaled, never. Accept no substitutes. Look for our logo. It’s a trout rising out of a map of the state of Alaska. If you don’t see this logo, it’s not Alaska Rainbow Lodge. Want more? We will gladly furnish a list of references. Who Is The Best?
You may be confused by the number of lodges in Alaska who claim to be the best. I know what my own idea of being the best is:
- Locate the best fishing in Alaska, and possibly the world. Hire river guides who have the highest ethics and standards in the business, who know the water and the fish and are willing to try their hardest to show you a great day (our guides are experienced professionals, not competing fishermen).
- Aircraft that are treated to an inspection every night to ensure safety. Pilots with accident-free histories. Lodge inside staff that are always ready to accommodate a customer request with a smile.
- A blue ribbon chef who makes the meals as visually attractive as they taste.
- Boats that are comfortable and motors that runs smoothly.
- Rods that aren’t broken and fly boxes filled with flies that really catch fish.
- Doing my utmost to make sure you don’t have to think about any single item during your entire week except catching fish and having the time of your life!
