Our Home River
Our home river is the world famous Kvichak (Kwee-jack) River, where the largest Rainbow trout in Alaska live.
The Kvichak remains one of Alaska’s most productive and popular rivers and offers unsurpassed trophy-size Alaska Rainbow Trout Fishing. Our home river also features Arctic Grayling, Northern Pike and Salmon fishing. In fact, the world’s largest Rainbow Trout, some up to 18 pounds, come from this awesome resource. The Kvichak’s Sockeye Salmon run numbers into the millions. The Sockeyes annual migration takes them right by the lodge, providing great angling opportunities and an impressive display of nature’s bounty. On occasion, poor weather conditions prohibit safe flying. When that happens, excellent fishing for Trophy Rainbow Trout and hard-fighting salmon can be easily accessed by boat, just minutes from our dock.

In 1982, Ron Hayes and his wife, Sharon, built Alaska Rainbow Lodge on the Kvichak River for three very important reasons:
- First, the Kvichak River has the largest salmon run in the world that swims right past the lodge every summer.
- Secondly, the Kvichak River has some of Alaska’s largest Rainbow Trout… period! The Kvichak will consistently produce rainbow trout in excess of 28″.
- The third reason the Kvichak River was the desired location to build our lodge was because of it’s proximity to other excellent fishing streams that can be quickly accessed using the lodge’s floatplanes. We are only short flights from some excellent fly-fishing-only streams for rainbows, as well as some fantastic salmon streams.
