Only the best Alaska fishing lodges can offer the angler both fly-out fishing to nearby streams and trophy fishing on their “home” river – the river the lodge is located on. Alaska Rainbow Lodge is located on the Kvichak River, home to Alaska’s biggest Rainbow Trout. From our lodge we are a 15-25 minute flight to the best and most famous trophy Rainbow Trout wade fly fishing streams in Bristol Bay.
Guests of our lodge have fantastic angling opportunities. You will have access to every stream in the famous Bristol Bay area of Western Alaska – 30 in all. The benefit of choosing to visit our lodge is that whether you decide to fly-out to fish a nearby stream or stay and experience the wonders that our home river has to offer, your fishing day will be filled with adventure and excitement. All of these fly-outs are included in the package price.
We fish by wading, drifting, casting, or plugging.
You can fly fish or use conventional gear; that’s up to you. There are streams that are protected as fly fishing only areas, and there are rivers that allow either fly fishing or the use of conventional gear. Alaska Rainbow Lodge guides practice fly fishing only for Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char, & Grayling, and all are catch and release. Alaska Fly Fishing in Bristol Bay is the best on the planet, and we know it!
Depending on the river, the season and the weather we fish in one of three ways after a short 15-25 minute flight in one of our 3 Beaver floatplanes.
- We hike many of the smaller streams, trying different runs and holes throughout the day. We will find fantastic fishing with short, easy walks or with longer, adventurous hikes for those looking to explore rugged Alaska and find a true wilderness stream where it’s unusual to see another fisherman.
- We take small rafts on some of the mid-size rivers, which allows us to float long sections of river. A scenic float trip with a pick-up 3-5 miles downstream will allow you to cover lots of water while still getting out to wade the best spots.
- On many of our rivers we leave jet boats stored for quick, easy access. Whether fishing out of the boat or using it for transportation from hole to hole before wade fishing, these rivers are usually good bets to find Rainbow Trout of unbelievable size. We own and operate jet boats on 14 different rivers.
Much of our Alaska salmon fishing, particularly the King salmon, is done by boat – with lures or plugs. You may fly fish for Kings on the Alagnak where you can sight fish with a fly rod. All other salmon fishing – Silver Salmon, Chum Salmon, Pink Salmon, & Sockeye Salmon are accessed by a combination of aircraft, jet boat, wade or bank fishing.
