During my many years of guiding and bush flying, I have done several things: I provided mountain climbers with transportation up high on the glaciers, mostly on Mt. Logan in Canada, working out of Burwash, Yukon Territory, in the early '60's.
I made several movies, two of which became world famous. Alaskan Safari and North Country.
I also assisted Sears in making a camping movie in Alaska featuring Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to climb Mt. Everest.
I assisted, and outfitted for the ABC series The American Sportsman, making several sequences on hunting in Alaska with celebrities such as Jimmy Dean on a Moose hunt, Cornell Wilde on a Bear hunt, William Shatner on a Bear Bow hunt and Goose hunting with Lee Majors.
Looking back on my career of poaching, I realize it was not the sporting or ethical thing to do. If I had it to do over again I would do it legal. But that doesn't take away the fact we were good at it. There was none better than the few I could name on two hands. Many of these proud men are now dead but all of them have been arrested and are now out of the hunting guide business.

Ron Hayes became an Alaska Guide under territorial before it became the forty-ninth state.
For many years, Ron worked alone with the use of a Super Cub aircraft. Just Ron, the client and the airplane. During the sixties, a law was passed making it illegal to hunt same day airborne. The law was made because there were about a dozen guides who hunted with airplanes. Many of those guides were so good with those airplanes that nothing escaped.

Great video of the plane ride and trout fishing. My wife found this site and it looks like a wonderful place to save up for a visit. What time of year is prime rainbow fishing up there?

Thanks, Randy! The Rainbow fishing is good up here through our whole season (June thru mid October) – it’s our specialty!
