HUNTING

HUNT THE ARCTIC FLYWAY OF THE ALASKA PENINSULA

This is a September adventure. Our clients start out from our lodge stalking giant Rainbow Trout - we’ll fish the Battle, Kulik, Brooks, Naknek and Talarik, and of course our home river, the Kvichak. You may spend as few or as many days of your week stalking the great trophy fish which average 5 pounds with daily catches of 28 to 30 inch, 10 to 12 pound Rainbows.

You may spend two days at our Alaska Peninsula camp, where you can catch huge Silver Salmon on flies, both wet and dry.

A typical day at the Peninsula camp would go like this; Early morning waterfowl hunt near our comfortable cabin. After an hour or two of early morning waterfowl hunting for duck and geese, we’ll have a late breakfast, then hit the Silver hole nearby. You can cast wet or dries to these monsters. They start at 12 pounds and go up to 19. Lots of action - right near the cabin.

If you like, after lunch we’ll go in our jet boat upriver towards the mountains - a boat ride of thirty-five minutes. On the way we may stop two or three times and walk up several flocks of Ptarmigan. It’s quite common to jump a hundred birds in these short walks.

At the end of our boat ride we arrive at the Char hole. Here one can take a Char just about every cast. These are beautiful, spawning colored Char. Many times while you are fishing a flock of birds will fly over and land nearby. It’s a hard decision whether to grab the shotgun or land the Char.

Two days are spent at this wonderful camp. It’s a wild and remote place 225 miles Southwest of our main lodge. It’s very comfortable, warm and we eat like a king, specializing in what we catch and shoot. The area is teeming with wildlife, hundreds of thousands of ducks and geese - Ptarmigan everywhere. The fishing is so good it’s almost undescribable. In my forty years of guiding in this area I’m still anxious to return. I get excited each time I go there with a guest.

We furnish everything you’ll need - fishing gear, shotguns, shells, vests, dogs - just bring yourself. Be sure you properly equip yourself with the best personal clothing and personal items. You are encouraged to bring your favorite shotgun. Bring extra clothing for bird hunting - this is in addition to the regular fishing equipment and clothing listed:

1. Polar fleece gloves
2. Stocking cap.
3. Waterproof walking boots - Gore-Tex or Shoe Pacs are good, the ones with rubber bottoms and leather tops.
4. Rain pants, lightweight waterproof Gore-Tex to fit over your hunting trousers.
5. Hunting trousers - wool are good or polar fleece underwear type are good.
6. Shooting glasses.
7. Shooting vest is nice.
8. Binoculars.

You will need to gear up to walk around for Ptarmigan hunting. Waders are not satisfactory. You’ll get too hot and sweaty. You need two outfits - one to walk in and hunt, the other to wade fish and duck hunt, which does not require a lot of walking.
