During the summer, our part of Alaska experiences extended daylight hours, sometimes up to 20 hours of sunlight. At our location, you can witness unforgettable Alaska sunsets over the Bristol Bay wilderness.

How do I get to Alaska Rainbow Lodge from Anchorage?

Guests typically fly from their home to Anchorage, then take a charter flight to King Salmon (or ride Alaska Airlines). The charter flight is included in our All-Inclusive package. Shorter Trips (BYOB) do not include the charter flight and must be purchased in order to get to Alaska Rainbow Lodge.

From King Salmon, you will ride via a floatplane flight (De Havilland Beaver DHC-2) directly to the lodge. The scenic route offers breathtaking views of Iliamna Volcano, Iliamna Lake, and other Alaska landscapes.

What wildlife and attractions are near the lodge?

Beyond incredible fishing, guests often enjoy brown bear viewing, spotting bald and golden eagles, moose, caribou, wolves and exploring the nearby rivers. We regularly visit Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park and Preserve.

Absolutely. Many of our guests are new to fly fishing. Our guides provide personalized instruction, high-quality gear, and patience to match any skill level. Between excursions, you can relax at the lodge, enjoy Alaska's long summer sunsets, or plan additional adventures to explore the top attractions in Anchorage, Alaska, before or after your stay.

  • How does the remote location affect communication or Wi-Fi access at the Alaska fishing lodge?

There is no cell phone service at the lodge or fishing locations. At our remote lodge, we do have high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi for our guests to use for phone calls and internet.

Is there an age minimum or specific fitness level required for the guided fishing Alaska excursions?

We can accommodate guests of almost any age or fitness level. At a minimum guests should be able to safely climb in and out of the aircraft and boats, and be capable of walking moderate distances without discomfort. We have also hosted children as young as 7 and they have had the time of their lives!

What steps does the lodge take to ensure safety while fishing in the remote Bristol Bay region?

Guest safety is our highest priority. All daily fly-out fishing trips are conducted by highly experienced professional guides who carry satellite communication devices (like an inReach or satellite phone). Our guides are trained in wilderness first aid, bear safety (which is crucial in Bristol Bay), and emergency water operations. Furthermore, our flight operations are run by experienced commercial pilots.

Given the focus on Trophy Rainbow Trout fishing, are all trips strictly catch-and-release?

Yes, all fishing for Trophy Rainbow Trout is strictly catch-and-release. This conservation measure is crucial for maintaining the exceptional quality of the Kvichak River and surrounding Bristol Bay fisheries. For Salmon species (like Sockeye and Silver Salmon), catch limits are determined daily by Alaska Fish and Game regulations, and the lodge offers full fish processing for legal catches you choose to keep.

What are the typical daily hours and schedule for fly-out fishing trips?

A typical day for your Alaska fly-out fishing adventure begins with breakfast around 6:30 AM. After a flight safety briefing, planes depart between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM. You will spend a full day fishing different rivers, including a shore lunch prepared by your guide. Planes return between 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM, allowing time to relax before a gourmet dinner service.

Are there activities available for non-fishing companions or during non-flying days?

While the lodge specializes in world-class fly fishing, non-fishing guests can enjoy the tranquil Alaska wilderness experience through activities like wildlife viewing, photography, or relaxing by the Kvichak River. On non-flying days, the fishing on the home waters is often excellent, or guests can enjoy the lodge amenities, like the wood-fired sauna, reading, playing cards at the table, or watching movies and browsing the internet.

What is the process for tipping or providing staff gratuities at the lodge?

While tipping is discretionary, providing staff gratuity is customary in the lodge industry, especially at all-inclusive fishing lodges in Alaska. Guests will receive an envelope to put their cash gratuity in so that on the last day of their trip they can hand it over to the Lodge Manager, who then distributes it to all members of the staff. Guests typically leave 10-15% of the trip cost in gratuity. Cash is the preferred method of gratuity however, if that is not viable please contact us about alternative methods. Tipping individual staff members that made your trip special is allowed and encouraged.

  • What is your deposit, final payment, and cancellation policy for the all-inclusive packages?

To secure your dates, a 50% deposit is required upon booking. The remaining balance is due 90 days prior to your scheduled arrival. Because our all-inclusive Alaska fishing trip slots are limited, deposits are non-refundable 180 days before your trip's start date unless we can successfully rebook your spot which we will make every effort to do. We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance.

How does the cost of a custom Alaska fishing trip compare to the 7-day all-inclusive rate?

The custom Alaska fishing trip cost is priced at $1,850 per person, per day. This option provides flexibility but is not fully inclusive like the signature package. The 7-day package provides significant added value by including the private round-trip charter flights from Anchorage and daily fly-outs, which are optional add-ons for custom trips.

How does the value of Alaska Rainbow Lodge compare to other high-end bristol bay fishing lodge prices?

Our bristol bay fishing lodge prices reflect our commitment to unparalleled value. We stand out by offering daily floatplane fly-outs to remote rivers (included in the signature package), a private charter flight to the lodge, and a 2:1 guide-to-guest ratio. We encourage guests to compare these inclusions, especially the cost of daily fly-outs, when evaluating overall lodge rates.

Our Alaska fly-out fishing packages are built around maximizing time on the water. After a made-to-order breakfast, you will board the floatplane around 7:30 AM and fly to a remote river, often reaching areas others cannot access. Please contact us to discuss what weight rods, lines and reels will best fit the trip you're looking for. We encourage guests to bring their own chest waders and boots, the lodge has available rental waders upon request.

Yes. All of our world-class daily fly-out fishing adventures, including the use of planes and guide services, are all-inclusive in your package.

Where do we fly each day?

We access over 10,000 square miles of the Bristol Bay watershed. Our guides determine the best location daily based on weather, water conditions, and the most active fish runs (Salmon, Trout, Char).

How far in advance do I need to book?

Due to the limited number of prime weeks during the Alaskan fishing season (June-September), we highly recommend booking 6 to 12 months in advance to secure your preferred dates.
